Diovani Hernandez May 31, 2024 Theme Presentation        Our way of life is dependent on communication, which is made possible by the diverse diction we use and the ways we physically and verbally express ourselves to others. For some of us, communicating with others can be difficult, particularly for those who suffer from autism or other forms of mental illnesses. We as a species learn to connect to one other, even while it can be difficult for individuals to do so. Researchers understand more about autism and social signs as there has been more studies to help them with general information. Barbara explains that there are various methods to chat to each other and communicate. People connect and communicate with each other in an infinite number of diverse and endless ways.      Depending on the type of mental illness people struggle with, some may find it impossible to communicate with others in certain scenarios. Hidden Disabilities This presentation was about the different mental disabilities that many people struggle with. I really like this idea since we cannot truly underst and what these people go through, so the best we can do is research about mental disabilities. The different hidden disabilities assigned were Dyslexia, ADHD, Autism, anxiety, and OCD.   We were assigned autism, or autism spectrum disorder.   We separated the work and created groups of two or three. The different parts were research around autism, the history behind this disability, the United States vs the world, interviews, and finally the different organization helping autistic people.   My small group was assigned research behind ASD. I was in charge of the different types of autism, Jenifer was taking care of the nonverbal aspect of autism, and Camilo was working on the research done today and the past on this disability. I really enjoyed working with them. We had great communication and unders...

About The Themed Presentation The recent assignment required us to study and discuss various issues that some people face. My group, Group #2, focused on the Autism Spectrum. Our presentation went smoothly, with everyone staying on topic and providing comprehensive information on their respective sections. Each group member diligently researched and presented their part, ensuring a cohesive and informative session that highlighted the key aspects of autism, its challenges, and the progress made in understanding and supporting those on the spectrum. I believe the highlight of our presentation was the interviews with individuals with autism. These interviews offered valuable insights into their experiences and perspectives, shedding light on the diverse ways autism manifests and affects daily life. The firsthand accounts helped to humanize the statistics and theories, bringing a personal touch to our discussion. I am reminded of a friend from high school who was diagnosed with autis...

REFLECTION #2

- Jenifer Madrid  REFLECTION ON AUTISM Today, I reflect on autism, a topic that has touched many lives worldwide and given me a deeper understanding. I think that Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is more than a diagnosis; it's a unique way of experiencing and interacting with the world. This reflection serves as a personal exploration of what autism means and its impact on our society.  When I think about autism, I think of the many people I have encountered in my life, each with their own strengths and challenges. Autism is not a one-size-fits-all condition; it is different for anyone with this condition. Some people I have seen on social media are non-verbal but communicate profoundly through art or technology. Others have incredible talents in specific areas, such as music or mathematics, while facing difficulties in social interactions. One particular childhood experience I remember was meeting a middle school boy with autism. I still remember his fascination with math; it w...
